Confusion species

Many species of Phyllonorycter are extremely similar, great care should be given when separating these species. It is often impossible to separate the adults of some species.

Alder.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva forms a small triangular shaped mine near the midrib, often several larval mines found in one leaf. Pupates in a whitish cocoon within the mine.
